I have covered the Sabbath many times, and I will probably cover it many times more. I was reading through my testimony the other day and afterward this comic came to mind. If you have read it, you know that the Sabbath was one of the first things we tried out.

Today, I look back and just think: how stiff-necked are we as a people to think that setting a day a side once a week to rest and glorify God is a sin, or putting yourself under a curse, or rejecting Yeshua/Jesus? Can we talk about the logic of that line of thinking for a minute?

I have but a fraction of the verses listed in the comic about the Sabbath. It is mentioned A LOT in the Bible. It is the only commandment of the 10 Commandments, beside do not worship idols, that has details on how to observe it in the command. Once you start looking at the verses in the prophets concerning the Sabbath, you see it is VERY important to God. In the Jeremiah passage above, you can just hear God’s tone in His words of how angry He is that people are doing work on it.

With all this, how can we even begin to think that resting on the Sabbath is a sin? “If it was once a sin, it is always a sin.” People use this line all the time to speak out against things society is doing today. The opposite is true as well. If it wasn’t a sin before, it’s not a sin now.

How can we even begin to think that resting on the Sabbath puts us under a curse? The exact opposite is actually written in the Bible: Deut. 28:15 – If you do not obey God and do His commands, curses will come upon you.

How can we even begin to think that resting on the Sabbath is rejecting Yeshua? If you look up Sabbath just in the Gospels you will see Yeshua is very active on the Sabbath. Teaching and healing people. Doing good. He speaks out against the Jewish traditions that were put in place on the Sabbath, such as carrying a mat or not healing someone. He even states he is Lord of the Sabbath. If someone is Lord of something, how is observing that something rejecting the Lord? It isn’t! If Taco Tuesday was a thing during Yeshua’s time and he said “I am Lord of Taco Tuesday.” Would it now be rejecting him to eat tacos on Tuesday? I can picture now sermons where the preacher is saying “brethren, you best not be eating any tacos on Tuesdays. You can eat your tacos any other day of the week, but if you even take a bite of that crunchiness on a Tuesday, Hellfire is waiting for you.”

We all need rest. I know while I was in a corporate office, no one cared about the weekends. Where they away from work? Yes, but they now went to work for themselves. Usually doing chores and errands. They didn’t get to rest. Vacation was what everyone looked forward to. Sometimes it was off to somewhere else, where no work could be found. Other times it was a staycation. They just wanted to sit around the house and relax. This is once or maybe twice a year. EVERYONE looked towards it. We all need rest. We all look for rest. Why deny ourselves God-given rest once a week?

Another tidbit to think about before you go. The last passage in the comic from Ezekiel. This is talking of the Millennial reign, a future time. If Sabbath was something kept in the past, and something that will be kept in the future, why wouldn’t we keep it now?
