This one is a cool connection that a friend brought up and I went digging into. The night that Sodom and Gomorrah were burned down and Lot and his family was saved from there was Passover/First day of Unleavened Bread. If you study and look at when God does things in the Bible, it makes a lot of sense. We see that He does major things around His appointed times, His Feast Days.

In this account we have Lot specifically making unleavened bread (or matza in the Hebrew passage: מצה). However, just a chapter before when Abraham has Sarah the word is just bread (or lechem in the Hebrew passage: לחם). Not specifically unleavened bread. Words mean things. Why use one word for bread in one chapter and another word in the next, unless the type of bread being used is different? When God was talking to Abraham, it was before Unleavened Bread started, making leavened bread wouldn’t be an issue. However, once the angels arrived at Lot’s house, it was evening which means the day changed and it is now the first day of Unleavened Bread. Lot makes bread accordingly.

Remember, Abraham was pleading if 10 righteous people were in the town to save it. How could this righteousness be tested? Are you following God’s appointed times?

There is another connection we can add to here as well. Revelation 11:8 – “the great city, which is figuratively called Sodom and Egypt”. This line has always stuck out to me. You never hear those two together. If you hear Sodom, you think “and Gomorrah.” At least I do. This isn’t the connection in Revelation though. So what do these two have in common? Both places were destroyed via judgements. Both places had people of God being lead out and rescued.

Another connection, although a tradition, is that of the Jewish Passover Haggadah. We got one in our box of matza this year so I read through it. One of the prayers talks about this account and equating it to Passover/Unleavened Bread, stating that it happened at that time.
