Over the weekend a post from a well known ministry popped in my FB feed. I scrolled through the comments and saw someone defending their own position by making the statement on the left. They even went on to say that if you were following the Old Law, you were breaking the New Law.

I only give 4 different verses here to disprove this thought, but there are so, so many more. I want to just focus on these four in this comic, because I feel they have most of the meat.

1) These are God’s Laws. – If you read Exodus, Leviticus and Numbers together you will notice that anytime a command/law is given, it is God who is giving them. He is telling them to Moses to tell the people of Israel. Many times He states they are His Laws, not Moses’ (I point this out as the laws are often referred to, even in the Bible, as the Law of Moses). He also states that they are forever, throughout all your generations. He states they aren’t just for Israel, but the foreigner and the sojourner. During giving of these commands/laws He points out that the reason He is driving out the nations that are currently living in the Land is because they aren’t doing these laws.

2) God says His Laws are good and life. – I have brought this point up before on if God is good and He says His Law is good, His Law can’t become evil. However, the person who inspired the left panel is implying just that. If it is no longer good to do, that makes it evil. If doing it breaks another Law, that means according to that other Law, it is evil. That means good and evil have changed. That is a scary place to be. If what is good today is evil tomorrow, what hope do we have?

3) The Law is perfect. – David in the Psalms goes on and on about the Law. He equates it to several really good things. Above all, he calls it perfect. If something is perfect, why change it? Wouldn’t changing it make it no longer perfect? Something subpar?

4) Nothing from the Law will change. – It is easier for the earth to pass away than for the Law to change. That is a pretty big mountain to climb. Last I checked, the Earth is still here, otherwise I wouldn’t be able to make this comic.

There is more that can be brought out from the Scriptures on why the NT doesn’t negate the OT, it enforces it. There are also several Scriptures that show how if someone did make a change, they are not from God. I won’t go into that today. Go and study and show yourself approved.
