Church vs. Bible #031 – Eternal Life

February 2, 2020

A friend gave me the idea for this one. We all have read the passage of the young rich man and how he specifically asks what he has to do for eternal life. Jesus tells him to keep the commandments. We all seem to gloss over that part and just focus on what the young man wasn’t doing right, which is loving money.

“he went away sad, because he had great wealth”. We look at this and just think “oh he had so much he couldn’t get rid of it all.” But how many people, especially in America, have attained great wealth and have hit rock bottom? There are ways to get rid of it, this young man though wasn’t willing to do them. He had been accustomed to his life and how he was living.

This brings back to the left side. We have in black and white, Jesus saying to do the commandments, but how many of us can relate to the Christian here in the comic? We haven’t done hardly any of the commandments. We were taught they don’t apply to us. A lot of times, we aren’t willing to even attempt to do them. “They are too hard.”

We are then told all we have to do is believe. The problem there is we aren’t using a Biblical definition of believe. Something I probably should cover soon as well.
