I’ve been part of several discussions lately due to the upcoming election in America about what we are supposed to do. We as in believers. I’ve heard it said that if you believe in the Bible you HAVE to vote for X person or X party. If not, you aren’t really a believer, or you are helping Satan, or you are yoking yourself with evil, etc…

The issue I have with this argument/stance is what I present above in the comic. God’s intention is made very clear in Scripture, He is our king/ruler. He only gave the Israelites a king because they kept whining about it and as He said “they were rejecting Him”. The difference between then and now is that He was selecting the king as we saw with Saul, David and Solomon. Here in America though, we decided that this wasn’t good enough. We don’t want God selecting our king/ruler, we the people should do that. To me, this is just another step in rejecting God’s intention.

Some believers will use verses like Daniel 2:20-21 to show that our President *is* chosen by God, yet in the same breath if it isn’t their candidate, will go on about how evil they are and how they are ruining the country. If we are going to use Daniel as our example, we shouldn’t worry about who is going to be President and whoever is we should support wholeheartedly. Nebuchadnezzar had Daniel thrown into a den of lions, yet Daniel comes out and proclaims “oh king, live forever!”. When was the last time anyone you know of involved in politics said something of this nature about a President that wasn’t in their party? For me, never.

I’ll end with, I am not saying to not vote, but I think this is something we need to keep in mind and study out in Scripture. I haven’t decided if I am going to vote this year or not. Choosing the lesser of two evils is still choosing evil. I want to choose good.
