I have seen many many debates about the name. Recently, YouTube is popping up videos in my feed that have the title of “PROOF why X isn’t God’s Name”. The problem with videos and stances like this is the evidence opposite that position. If you have heard or read my testimony, you know that His Name is one of the things I researched in-depth when I first came on this walk. I didn’t use all the different names that I know in this comic, but hit some major ones.
People often say “well, if we don’t know His Name, then we aren’t His children”. I can agree with that, however, not in the way they are referring. This goes back to Greek thinking versus Hebrew thinking. In Greek, the focus is on descriptions/labels – an example is describing a pencil: we would say “it is long and slender, usually yellow”. In Hebrew the focus is on what something does – the same pencil would be described as “something I write with”. The same here goes with God, it isn’t about pronouncing His Name in the correct manner. Over and over and over again when God mentions His Name, He is talking about His character, what He does. When He talks about taking it in vain, He is talking about what WE do. We represent His Name when we say we are His children. How are you representing Him? Are you loving others that are trying to walk with Him? Or are you beating down and condemning those that don’t hold the exact beliefs you do (like how to pronounce His Name)?
