Something that came to mind when discussing someone challenging one of my comics on a social media platform. When looking at their profile, it reminded me of my old profiles. Full of things of this world. The cares, the goings on, etc… Hardly anything about God, the Bible, or anything else about faith. My Church vs. Bible (CvB) series is one I see that is attacking the dark brown part covering the heart on the left: the religious traditions. When I have folks come out against something I post on these topics, it is usually to defend the tradition. They almost always tell me I need to repent. Almost always assume I am promoting some false teaching or presenting a case that I am actually not presenting.
Why? I feel this goes back to myself and how I used to be. As I have spoke before I used to argue with people about my stance on the Bible. I was right, and they were ALL wrong. Catholics, Jehovah’s witnesses, Atheists, you name it, I argued with one at some point probably. I would tell you my heart at the time looked more like the left than it did the right then. I am not saying it is perfect now, but I am working on it. Back then though, yeah. I was more concerned with defending and “proving” my beliefs (those traditions) were right. Because if those were right, I had my justification for that other section covering the heart: the cares of the world. I am following my traditions, so I don’t have to dig deeper. I’m saved. That’s all that matters. Now I go get into politics, or become a super-fan of a TV show, or immerse myself so deep into a role playing game nothing else really mattered.
Where is your heart? Are you striving to get closer to God? Are you arguing and trying to condemn those that are trying to get closer to God? Do you care more about what is going on in the world than what is going on in your heart? Where is your heart?
