I thought with having the Gospel portion featuring Zechariah, we should cover another aspect of his and Elizabeth’s life. It is commonly said, and said here by our nay-sayers, that no one ever has been able to keep the Law. Only Jesus/Yeshua walked it out perfectly. However, our Bibles say otherwise. It says they walked all the commandments out and even adds the word “blamelessly” to describe that walk. The Greek word there is amemptos, which is irreproachable, blameless, faultless, unblamable. In the Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance with also gives Hebrew words with similar meaning it gives several words with the following meanings: blameless, innocent, correct, right, complete.

They were walking out the Law as best as they could and God saw that and had it recorded. They weren’t just following a checklist of commands, their hearts were in it. They were considered righteous according to Luke 1:6.

The nay-sayers here are a representation of things I had learned in church of those that try to follow the commands. As well as the last line being comments I have seen, someone seeing any type of hardship in someone’s life as a result of them trying to keep the Law.

God never promises we won’t see any hardship. When Moses goes before God, in Exodus 4, he says he can’t speak, but God says He is the one that makes people deaf and blind. Later on in John 9, Yeshua comes upon a blind man, and just like the nay-sayers here, they say that someone must have sinned for him to be blind. Possibly his parents as he has been blind since birth. Yeshua states no one sinned to cause this, but it happened for God’s Glory. Don’t look at hardship in someone’s life as them doing wrong against God. God could be using them to show His Glory through them.

Going back to Zechariah and Elizabeth, what came of them trying to keep the Law? God blessed them! While she was barren, He made her pregnant! She gave birth to John the Baptist! She got to feel him jump in her womb when they went to see Mary, who was also pregnant with Yeshua, and then was filled with the Holy Spirit.

I don’t know about you, but all those things sound pretty awesome to me.
