Church vs. Bible #035 – The Rapture

March 11, 2020

I haven’t done much prophecy. This is a big one. I know I subscribed to the Rapture theory most of my life. I loved the Left Behind book series (based on the Rapture being a pivotal event). I laughed at the bumper stickers with “Unmanned car if Rapture occurs”. I’ve had instances where I’ve worried the Rapture has already happened because I couldn’t find or get a hold of someone and thought I had been left behind.

The truth of the matter is that there isn’t any Scriptural support for the Rapture. All the verses that I had been taught on the Rapture were all taken out of context. I’ve looked at other people’s explanations online and I find much the same in their reasonings. I also found that the earliest belief in a Rapture wasn’t recorded until around 1830. Just under 200 years ago. Yet, it is being taught all over America (I don’t know about other places) as if this is Bible Truth and everyone since Jesus knew about it.

The first part of Revelation doesn’t even give any indication of a Rapture. Jesus tells the 7 churches what they need to do to be ready and even tells some of them that they will be persecuted. He also tells them to stay steadfast until the end. Not to just before the end, to the end. The rest of Revelation speaks of different things the saints are doing through the Tribulation. I know I had been taught that these were those that came to Christ during the Tribulation. Now, I see that as a separation made so that we can justify the Rapture theory.

Those letters to those 7 churches are important, and I think an important thing for everyone to review and keep in mind. Most have something good and bad said about them. Things they need to keep doing and are doing well, and things they shouldn’t be doing or things they aren’t doing and should. We all have something like that in our lives. We aren’t promised tomorrow. The end for us may be then, while someone else may be later. We need to work those things out now before it is too late.
