If you have been taught or believe the left side of this comic, please go and research and find the command that Peter is being rebuked for keeping. I’ll save you some time and tell you that it isn’t there. I have had a conversation with someone on this once and they brought back several Scriptures about when Israelites are unclean and how they are supposed to separate themselves, but that isn’t what Peter is doing here. Peter is going back to the tradition set-forth by the Jews at the time that they cannot associate with non-Jews. Peter even explains this in Acts 10:28. In Isaiah God even says that Israel is supposed to be a light to the nations, if they aren’t supposed to associate with non-Jews, they can’t exactly be a light to them for God.

To me, the real lesson we can gain from this is that we are all human: Peter, too. Peter is most often considered the greatest disciple, the one who would do anything for Jesus. Yet, here we have him stumbling, just like he did when he denied Jesus. We all stumble, and that is okay. It is when we stumble and we stay down that we have a problem.
