The right side is one of the coolest things to me when I started reading the Bible without trying to understand it from the Church’s point of view. These are just a few examples, but you can trace back several of the people in Genesis and their actions in accordance with (like Joseph) or against (like Cain) the Law given to Moses. It blew my mind once I saw this. It also made the Flood make so much more sense. It made God pulling a people together through Abraham make so much more sense. It made the Bible as a whole make so much more sense.
Why would God let Adam and Eve do whatever they want right after gaining all knowledge of Good and Evil? Why would God punish the world then turn around and allow the only thing not mentioned that they could do (thus a sin) allowed to be done after the punishment? Why would God take a small group of people and hold them to a higher standard than everyone else in the world? Why would God judge two people, who basically lived the same but one accepted Jesus and the other didn’t, totally different?
This last question is one I hope everyone reading this will take and ponder, study on, and pray about for the answer, and consider these along the same lines. The Bible tells us that God is just and righteous (Job 34:12, Isaiah 61:8, Deut. 32:4).
– Is it just to condemn everyone that lived before Jesus came, nearly 4,000 years of humanity?
– Is it just to live however you want, living just like everyone else in the world loving what the world loves, but profess Jesus and God not punish you, but punishes the world?
– Is it just for someone who doesn’t know Jesus, but takes care of the widow and the fatherless, who lays down his life to help his fellow man to be punished by God, but someone that professes Jesus and ignores those same people is blessed by God?
I know part of the reason that we have put these dividers in the Bible is because we don’t see these commands listed until after all these people lived in Genesis. However, as the saying goes, actions speak louder than words. You can see the Law in the actions of those in Genesis.
My point in all this, and most of these comics: Jesus isn’t our “Get out of Hell Free” card. He even said “On that Day, many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord! Didn’t we prophesy in your name? Didn’t we expel demons in your name? Didn’t we perform many miracles in your name?’ Then I will tell them to their faces, ‘I never knew you! Get away from me, you workers of Law-lessness!”
